Lauren Power Ph.D
I am a mom, artist, educator, and photo enthusiast. Teacher and counselor by education and artist by way of sheer determination. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education in 2008, Master’s in counseling in 2010, and Doctoral degree in Counselor Education in 2013. While mental health, growth and development, and research are incredibly important and necessary work, without creativity, specifically challenging myself to develop skillful expression, life feels incomplete. I infused creativity and art throughout my education and work as an educator and counselor in an attempt to not lose the creative spark and because there is a level of ones self that cannot be accessed with words alone. Creativity, art, and play are our greatest teachers.
I began taking pictures in 2011 as a creative outlet in the thick of graduate school and painting in 2020 as a way to breath life and beauty into a personally dark time. Creating art and taking photos for friends and family, which is my greatest joy, built my skills little by little.
I created this site initially to share my youngest child’s story after being diagnosed with Craniosynostosis, his story pre and post surgery will remain here for those that need it. However, I’d like to share this space with him and share my work, a digital portfolio, and story too. The name Pretty Little Ranch is after our home in south Texas, while I love the city, the beach, and all our travel destinations, this small plot of land and family we are raising on it, is my greatest creative endeavor. I have so many hopes and dreams for this place.
